You're right Phil - it applies equally to the 50s.
I referred to the 30s as that was a time of even greater recession.

In the 30s there was much more deprivation. People had less, expected less and there were no state benefits to help but people had respect for one and other and you could leave the house with the front door open and know that it would be safe.

People could leave the house with the front door open because they didn't have anything in there worth stealing.
I could never afford a Fender guitar back in the 60s and at the time never thought I ever would, It took a lot of saving just to purchase a Top Twenty guitar.
