You're right Phil - it applies equally to the 50s.

I referred to the 30s as that was a time of even greater recession.

Kind regards,

In the 30s there was much more deprivation. People had less, expected less and there were no state benefits to help but people had respect for one and other and you could leave the house with the front door open and know that it would be safe.

People could leave the house with the front door open because they didn't have anything in there worth stealing.
I could never afford a Fender guitar back in the 60s and at the time never thought I ever would, It took a lot of saving just to purchase a Top Twenty guitar.

Wouldnt have dared to think about it - any misbehaving resulted in a clip around the earhole from the local Bobby plus the same when your Dad found out - how times have changed - and not for the better! Now the Bobby and your Dad would be up in court for GBH. Someone on TV said the other day that he hoped Cameron's tough approach didnt mean a big warehouse with a thousand "Naughty steps" inside. No doubt TVs, CD players, mobile phones, good food and drink will be supplied in
case we breach "Human Rights."

At one time during the week, it dawned on people that the Police had been shackled for too long in their approach to wrong-doers and the riots were the result. Sadly since then it seems that the "do-gooders" have forgotten any lessons that might have been learnt and thus any videos of the Police using their batons to quieten some scum are shown on TV with the commentators remarking about Police brutality.

I get so fed up of hearing that young people have nothing to do, in the 60's we had nothing to do without money, except the Methodist youth club once a week, but we didn't go looting and burning.

Not all of these looting scum are poor, it's down to a complete lack of discipline at home and in school, let ( never mind let encourage)parents smack their children if they're doing wrong, bring back the cane in schools. It's a sad fact that some children need more than just reasoning.

And let's not encourage teenage girls to get pregnant time and time again with different people by giving them handouts that the rest of us have to pay for.

Let's also bring back some censorship on music and films, why do we need pseudo porn, four letter words, and violence on music video's?

It also seems some kids confuse video games with real life, you don't come back from the dead in real life.

I know they said rock and roll encouraged youngsters in the 50's to slash cinema seats, and most of us of that age thought the statement ridiculous, but Urban / Hip Hop have a lot to answere for in my view.

I'm neither right wing nor left wing, I'm not religious, I don't blame the police or the goverment, it's just society in general seems to have dumbed down this last 10 years or so along with it a sense of what is right and wrong, and general good behaviour. Our television programmes are full of people screaming abuse at one another, and we make 5 minute heroes of some very strange people indeed who take part in shows like big brother.

OK rant over, how about some music, by the way any update on Music Ground

Did you hear that 50 looters who raided Argos last week are waiting to be processed at Position 'C'.

Sorry.......................
