Whats the Best tape for Meazzi Echo Machines

Postby TOMMOLITTLELEVER » 14 Aug 2011, 12:54

Can anyone give me the name of the Best kind of tape to use on a Meazzi. Iv'e tried several Brands, but none of them will give that Saturated 8 echo repeats effect at the end of "Kon Tiki-(Except the original tape loop that came with the Machine when I bought it.

Cheers

The tape I use is BASF SM468 Professional on various tape echo machines and don't have any problems with it. If you're not getting the echoes as you should try adjusting the controls and settings or get the machine checked out for faults. If you get some echoes and not others I would doubt it was the tape that's at fault and I would suspect the machine is not producing those missing echoes. Do the easy checks first and play with the settings and see how the echoes change if that doesn't change anything then start looking at the mechanicals and capacitors, valves and resistors etc.

Let us know what you find, it's always interesting know.

Tommolittlelever/Ian has also asked this question on Charlie Hall's site and he discovered he had made the recording tape too long and there was insufficient contact with the tape heads impairing the recording of the echoes. It pays to look at the problem logically and check the easy and obvious things first.
