What shocking news. Awful. I only met Stephen on a handful of occasions at the Berkshire Club and a charity event for Children In Need. He was indeed a lovely, lovely man and a fabulous guitarist. Life is so cruel. Another fine man and a fine player taken away from the Shadows community far too soon. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Like several other posters, I only ever met Stephen a few times (maybe as few as two), though I was aware of his reputation as a player. But even that limited contact was sufficient to be able to confirm the opinion of those who knew him better: a real gentleman. A real loss to this little world and a big loss to his closer friends and family, to whom I send my condolences.
During his time as lead guitarist for The Silver Shadows I got to know Stephen quite well and can say that he was a great enthusiast and exponent of Shadows music. He was one of life's true gentlemen. My thoughts are with his wife Mary at this time.
What a shock. I have known Stephen for a number of years. He was always there to play and enjoyed doing so at clubs, in makeshift bands, anytime. I can only imagine how Mary and family are feeling right now.
Have just heard the sad and terrible news about Stephen. I met Stephen on many occasion at Warwick and always he was a pleasant and knowledgeable gentleman - and such a good guitarist. RIP Stephen Ian
Very sad news indeed. Stephen was always so friendly when we saw him at Warwick and a very good guitarist. Sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP Stephen.
