Stephen was a true gentlman ,and a superb player ,and allways ready to help and encourage others , i had to miss last Sundays meeting at Warwick, due to being away in France , i really wish i could have been there , he played very well at our June meeting , and i shall remember him allways, God Bless Ron Sutton
I didn't know Stephen and never did hear him play. Nevertheless, it is always very sad to lose someone, especially when it happens so unexpected. Was he in good health, just before his death? My thoughts are with his family and friends.
In the earlier development period of the Surrey Shadows Club, Stephen Swann attended regularly as a member of the club's excellent backing band - The Silver Shadows. Whether playing Rythmn or Lead Guitar Stephen certainly inspired many up and coming players in our Club to try to achieve his level of playing performance. Forever very modest, Stephen was always willing to share his playing skills of the tunes we all love with anyone who asked. As the tragic news has spread, many expressions of shock & sadness from members of SSC have been received.
Therefore, collectively we offer our sincere condlences to Stephen's Family at this sad time.
I have been informed that Stephen's funeral will be on Thursday 22 September at 2:45p.m. at Knebworth Parish Church - St Martins church in Knebworth. For those with satnav the postcode is SG3 6ER. Friends are welcome at the church, however the service that follows at the cremetorium is for family only. If you are unsure where the church is enter Knebworth Parish church in Google and it will take you to the approprite website. You can then select the link to St Martins.
Maureen and I have just returned to the island from visiting family . We cannot believe this news ,Stephen musically to me was one of the best guitarists i have the pleasure to play with ,what a gentleman and such a kind person. Maureen always loved his version of "Magic Doll " he could make that white Burns talk and as a fellow guitarist he was the one to watch !
We are sure that the Shadows community will sad and suffering a great loss at this time and our thoughts are with his family at this time
