Quite a few Shadows tracks were covered on the Embassy label - mostly by Bud Ashton and his group or occasionally Steve Stannard. Jet & Tony's hits were also covered. Certainly these were amongst the tracks put out on Embassy: "Scarlett O'Hara" / "Applejack" / "Diamonds" / "Man Of Mystery" / "Theme For Young Lovers" / "Rhythm 'n' Greens" / "Sleepwalk" / "F.B.I." / "Atlantis" / "Geronimo" / "The Frightened City" / "Apache" / "Wonderful Land" / "Guitar Tango" / "Dance On" / "The Savage" / "Kon - Tiki". Generally speaking they were pretty feeble - with nothing of the power and energy of the Shadows. A few were just plain awful. Overall (IMHO) the drummer/s quite often gave a fair account of themselves and the bass was generally adequate (but could seldom compare to Jet). The rhythm was usually accurate but perfunctory & none of the players could really emulate Hank's style, sound and touch. Occasionally they would get close - but only occasionally. For instrumental collectors they're interesting. A couple of useful collections (on Honky Tonk Records!) are: "Swingin' Guitars" (CDHT602) from 2002 and "Play Man Play" (CDHT604) from 2009. The latter (30 tracks) includes 3 of the former's 26 tracks. But...if you like instrumentals and history (& don't mind some of the covers being a little 'dodgy') then those two CDs are well worth tracking down.
Bests.....Rob
