Got into trouble for playing this in 1982 at a local Conservative club.
I remember having exactly the same problem. Back in '81 I formed The Shudders, here in Sussex and we performed a full two hour programme of Shads material. We played regularly in clubs round the area and used to feature Don't Cry For Me before all the troubles in the Falklands kicked off. We were having a great evening in one particular social club but when we went into this number you could have cut the atmosphere with the proverbial. At the end there was no applause, in fact, distinct mutterings until I went to the mic and said we had renamed the number "Don't Mess With Us Argentina". We then had great applause. Seemed totally rediculous when you consider the song was written by two great British song-writers and was performed by British artists. We stopped playing the tune until well after the war had died down. That memory really stuck with me though.
