By the way, the backing was created entirely in Band in the Box. Great bit of kit this. :D

Best of luck with the omega Brian, in view of how you've got on with it I tried to install a new driver.
After innumerable attempts I've given in again.

Buy the Lexicon Alpha. It is only two tracks but it is a lot easier to configure (and cheaper)

Ecca,

Here is the message I got which sorted my system out -

Hello,

Omega: Uninstall/Re-Install the USB drivers

Make sure the Lexicon Omega is connected and turned on:

I recommend you Uninstall/Re-Install the USB drivers, to do this go to your device manager and expand the section labeled Sound, Video and game Controllers. Right click on the Lexicon drivers one at a time and choose uninstall.

To verify which drivers are related to the Omega; disconnect the USB cable from the Omega, the device manager will refresh itself and the Omega drivers will disappear; reconnect the USB cable to the Omega and the drivers will re-appear.

Once the drivers are uninstalled, disconnect the USB cable from the Lexicon Omega and perform a factory reset on the Lexicon Omega

To reset the Omega, disconnect the USB and power cables from the Omega then press and hold two of the USB Assign buttons (one between the Mic 1 and Mic 2 knobs, the other between Line 3 and Line 4 knobs) while you reconnect the power cable to the back of the Omega. Continue to hold the USB Assign buttons until the LED’s between the Line 1 and Line 2 knobs flash then release the buttons and reconnect the USB cable.

Let the PC fully recognize the Lexicon Omega before running the driver installer.

Download and installed the latest drivers from the link below:

Yeah, done all that long since.
I use the Omega as a mixer straight into the soundcard.

Ecca,

Here is the content of a second e-mail I got to help me get started -

Brian,

This hardware and software setup should help.

Hardware setup:

Verify the Lexicon Omega is connected via USB and powered on.
Verify the Blue USB LED on the front panel of the Lexicon Omega is lit solid Blue (not flashing), if the LED is flashing then you do not have a good USB connection.
For this setup Lexicon recommends connecting a microphone to the Microphone 1 input on the Lexicon Omega.
Turn the Microphone 1 input gain on the Lexicon Omega up to a level just below clipping.
Set the Microphone 1 input on the Lexicon Omega to Mono.
Verify the MIC 1, MIC 2 USB assign switch is set to 1- 2.
Set the Monitor Mix knob on the Lexicon Omega to 12:00 o’clock
Connect headphones or an amplifier to the Lexicon Omega, perform the obligatory check 1, 2 into the microphone and bring the output level up to a comfortable listening level. All audio input and output will pass through the Lexicon Omega. Headphones or an amplifier must be connected to the Lexicon Omega in order to hear playback from Cubase LE4.

Software setup:

Launch Cubase LE4 by double left clicking the Cubase LE4 icon on your computers desktop or select Start>All Programs>Steinberg Cubase LE4>Cubase LE4.
In Cubase LE4 select File>New Project, select default in the New project window and click OK. Select your directory and click OK.
Select Devices>Device Setup>VST Audio System
Select Omega ASIO from the ASIO Driver dropdown menu and click Switch.
Click Reset.
Click OK.
Select Project>Add Track>Audio
In the Add Audio Track Window, Select 1 Count, Mono Configuration and click OK.
By default the track input will be set to Left - Stereo In which will correspond to the Microphone 1 input on the Lexicon USB Audio Interface. If you are using a Lexicon alpha set the track input to Right – Stereo In.
Verify the tracks record enable button is let red.
Click the Record button on the Transport Bar and recording will begin.
For testing perform the obligatory check 1, 2 into the microphone for approximately 10 to 15 seconds.
Click the Stop button on the transport bar.
Rewind the track to the beginning using the transport bar rewind button or click Goto Previous marker / Zero on the transport bar.
Click the Start button on the transport bar.
You will hear the sound playing out of the Lexicon USB Audio Interface.

Note:

If you ever experience any issues with audio playback or recording Select Devices>Device Setup>VST Audio System, Verify the Lexicon Omega Driver is selected in the ASIO Driver dropdown menu and click the Reset Button.

The perpetual problem is that the copmputer recognises the Omega ( for a while ) but only as USB 1,2,3 and 4.
Whatever I do I can't get past this and no recording software recognises it because of that so I can't use it.
The instructions from Lexicon regarding this are to re-install the lastest drivers which I've done repeatedly .
It doesn't work and then the computer no longer recognises the Omega at all and I have to reset it manually which then goes back to square one.

My problem with the Omega is that I can get it to work - eventually. I have used it with Reaper and Cubase - on both Laptop and desktop.
When it works it is brilliant. The problem is that the next time I want to use it I can't remember what I did to get it to work previously.

The Apha is a doddle if you only need to record two tracks at a time. It is also excellent for recording direct on to a streaming site - such as http://www.thestage.tv/index.php?chatAuth=yes

I put the uke through an RFX2000 and the mike through an Alesis Q2 before putting them both through the Alpha and into the computer.

I confess I couldn't get anywhere until that chap e-mailed me. I am afraid I am very impatient with manuals, particularly when they cover up the essential instructions and workflow with all the techno-babble., I know that all has its place but when you just want to get on with it I want a simple to follow "enter-push chart" flow diagram for idiots.

So far I have had it working for several sessions and, more importantly, found that it has not interferred with the audio settings I use for video editing with Premier and Audition. I was very concedrned that once I had the system working as a recording studio through the Lexicon the video side would stop. Although I have only been working with this for 48 hours, so far so good and it uses the Asus Xonax sound card whjen working with Premier and Audition and the Lexicon when using Cubase.

With my very limited experience I can't offer any more advice other than what came in the two e-mails from their support desk.

Switched it on this morning and the computer doesn't even recognise the Omega at all.
If I reset it, in a hardware fashion, it will require me to go through the whole process re new drivers and it then it still won't work.
Tomorrow morning the computer won't recognise it again at all.
Do you think it's the computer version of Alzheimers ?
It's no bad mixer I suppose.
