While watching Aldershot v Man Utd last night I heard the Aldershot fans 'singing' the first few bars of the melody part of 'Apache'.
I've never heard this as a chant before. Is it new? If not, what is the link?
Any Aldershot fans out there care to explain?

Yep! I heard the same thing Malcolm. It might have been the Manchester fans; at one point the commentator said they seemed to be running through their complete repertoire of songs - there was even a version of the 12 days of Christmas in there somewhere. I remember hearing those two bars of Apache at another match a while back, but I can't remember who was playing.

In the end though, a slightly better result for M.U. than their previous game.

Hi, everyone. I hope you don't mind a reply from someone who does not live in the UK -- and I, therefore, could be incorrect in what I am about to say. I enjoy soccer/football, but my knowledge is limited to my local team, The Philadelphia Union.

In 1981 in the USA, there was a rap group called The Sugar Hill Gang who came out with a hip-hop version of Apache. I have attached a link to the lyrics and a link to some info I found on Wikipedia. The American version of Apache sounds so unlike The Shads' version that I actually did not believe it was the even same song when I first heard it, but it is.

If I am completely wrong here, please forgive me.

Last night (Tuesday), we saw the musical "Jersey Boys", which had an eight-minute break.

I know it was exactly eight minutes because a countdown digital clock was projected onto the proscenium and three b&w films were projected simultaneously with it, depicting (in rough terms) an American tour by the group in their heyday, starting with scenes of New York and progressing via Los Angeles, San Francisco, other places I couldn't recognise and Chicago.

There was a soundtrack of sorts - a jumble of speech, sound effects and snatches of music - presumably meant to represent radio stations. At one particular moment, a brief snatch of Hank's improvised chorus in 36-24-36. Despite the presence of quite a few other Brits, I bet I was the only person in the theatre who recognised it.
