How Life Story Was Recorded?

Postby wstagner » 03 Nov 2011, 17:41

Can any 1 here provide details on HOW this was recorded with all the players living all over the world?
Specifically what hardware/software was used?

TIA,
Walt

As far as I know, the "backing" (everyone but Hank) was first recorded in UK, then Hank added his lead part in Australia.
It's been a long time since most recordings are made in several takes.
Avid "Pro Tools" software is often used for this kind of job.

So, computer files were sent around electronically (as needed) and all merged/mixed in protools?

Not sure Pro Tools was used, but file were certainly sent electronically.

BTW, for the Cliff & Shads "Reunited" studio album, all of the Shadows but Hank were recorded in UK, Hank was recorded in Australia, and Cliff was recorded in the USA...

Certainly Hank himself definitely uses Protools. However, the final results (master mixdown etc) were carried out at Honeyhill Studios I believe. I know that Warren Bennett was heavily involved and probably Dick Plant too. There was undoubtedly discussion about it all on these boards. I'm sure that our resident technical experts will remember much more than me about it all.

It's a bit like David Bowie singing with Bing Crosby...
