Legendary Guitarist Hank Marvin performs..

Postby Tony » 22 Oct 2011, 12:42

Unfortunately it's too far for some to come... but for those who live in Victoria, Australia, or even in NSW or SA, here is an opportunity to see Hank Marvin and 'Gypsy Jive'

http://riverlinksvenues.com.au/hankmarvin.html

Will be sitting in row E25 and 26 with my 11 year old son who is an ardent fan. Just as well he is 'cause he has to listen to The Shadows most of the time

Hope we can see you there....

That's Gary Taylor in his band who was in the Hank Wangford Band during the early 1980s.

Hi Tony
I'm so sorry to hear it was cancelled. That would have been a big disappointment for you.
Hopefully there will be more concerts in future.
Did you hear the interview with Hank at

Sorry to hear the gig is cancelled.
Perhaps it is another case of people not accepting this style of music from the Shadows legend.

The UK tour is also cancelled and the amount of die-hard Shads fans who I've spoken to who were not going to attend is surprising.
I actually enjoy gypsy jazz and had booked tickets for Croydon.

I'm afraid it's the old chestnut of giving the public what they want, and it appears they want the Shadows hits played by the man who made them in the first place.

Maybe the proposed UK tour was a tad ambitious. Perhaps something on a smaller scale might have worked out. Maybe it's also the current economic climate. I certainly don't get to as many shows as I used to. When I heard that Hank was touring the UK with his project, I gave it a lot of thought (all irrelevant now of course). I admire Hank for doing exactly what he wants to do and I don't doubt that he's made himself a fine exponent of the art. It's all a matter of personal taste. Much as I admire many Jazz guitarists technically - it's not a style of music that I particularly enjoy. So I was one of the many who decided that I probably wouldn't go to an evening of Gypsy Jazz guitar - as, irrespective that it would be Hank playing, it would be the type of music that I simply have little or no interest in whatsoever.

Rob

Its a shame this has hapenned, it seems that Hank can't escape from the Shadows tag. I've heard a few of his Gypsy Jazz tunes and it's okay, whether i would buy a whole album though is debatable, i probably would but wasn't too impressed with his last album Guitar Man.

It's like the Marvin, Welch & Farrar era, when they went on stage they got calls for Apache, F.B.I. etc.
