Cliff on the Chris Evans Show

As part of Children in Need on this morning's Chris Evans Radio 2 show, there was a half hour slot, where pledges for Cliff songs were played: Wired for Sound, Devil Woman, Move It!, Summer Holiday & Living Doll were chosen by listeners. Ironic in that Chris said a few years ago that he'd never play a Cliff song on one of his shows. Also somewhat apposite because of the news item yesterday (mentioned in another thread here) that a new sixties radio station wouldn't be playing any of Cliff's records...

perhaps people are finally starting to appreciate Cliff. I noticed in the metro today that there will be a Cliff Christmas cd free with the daily mail tommorow.

What the hell is wrong with the British Media, why do they always run their own down?

What you say about Elivs being a national treasure in the USA WAS troo in the past but not anymore.
Hardley any 1 here under 40 has ever heard of Elvis. Kids here in the USA are so self-centered and absorbed in their iphones, ipads and video games they don't care about anything else. History to them is what happened last year!

Thanks to the Internet many of us across the pond from you have been able to share and appreciate the music of Cliff and the Shads.

Our band played Ghost Riders, Wonderful Land, Savage, and Fender Bender...just to name a few.
Bob Spalding and Leon Taylor of the Ventures were there and after the event Bob sent me a personal email telling me how much he enjoyed hearing the Shads stuff. We told him that if we played at the 2012 event, he'd get to hear more.

What a musical journey that has been for most of us in here.
You see kids now all over walking about like Zombies with their noses stuck firmly in their Iphones totally oblivious to all thats going on around them.
There, thats my 'old git' comments for this fine saturday morning I'll now head off upstairs and get my nose firmly stuck into my guitars totally oblivious to all that going on around me


Have to say though. Cliff has never been my thing I'm afraid, but then, I've always been 'instrumentaly minded' in my musical life.
But the guy must have something else he would have fizzled out years ago. I guess he's withstood the test of time unlike a lot of singers.
Maybe the Shads helped that along?

It's the same here in Britain sadly.During the week in answer to a question about British music on the tv quiz show "Pointless", it appears that more people have heard of the loathsome Susan Boyle than Elvis Presley. I suppose because it is now 35 years since Elvis died and 41 years since the Beatles split, todays kids will not have heard of two of the most influential names in musical history but it is sad nonetheless.

How true, kids today are self absorbed in their own world. I had a father and 3 older brothers who thankfully all loved music therefore I was exposed to the music they enjoyed listening to in the early 50's. This I believe had a great influence on my appreciation of music in general and allowed me to form my own selection of favourites.
Today so many families are totally disfunctional and communication between the members is non existent, causing the "me" society we now enjoy.
I too am eternally grateful that I grew up in the era of great music from so many different artists.
