Although CSNY produced some fantastic songs they also released some real rubbish songs like "I Almost Cut My Hair" and even their version of "Woodstock" was not as good as Matthews Southern Comfort's.

I think CSNY put out some tracks which were just album fillers whereas MWF produced albums where each track was as good as the others

Can't really agree with you about their version of Woodstuck being inferior to the Matthew's Southern Comfort version. I thought that it was vastly superior and that was from the time when there was no known Shadows connection. Almost Cut My Hair was a great song as indeed was the whole Deja Vu album.

What a pity that it was Shadows fans who ruined it for the guys with their lack of acceptance of the new band.

Hi All

I personally think that the Marvin, Welch & Farrar period of the Shads story was superb and they deserved a lot more success than they actually had. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but, didn't a strike at EMI stop sales of the first M,W & F album? Tracks like 'Faithful', 'Lady Of The Morning' and 'Ronnie' not forgetting 'Lonesome Mole' are some of my favourite songs ever. If EMI and everyone else involved cannot be bothered in finding the unreleased Shadows tracks how about getting off your bums and reactivating Hank, Bruce & John.

MW&F were certainly at least a match for CSNY in terms of vocal work but left them standing as regards guitar work and production in general. Am I right in thinking Second Opinion won an award for engineering?
I liked a lot of CSNY - and Eagles, Poco, Chicago etc but I always return to MW&F.

I don't think 'Second opinion' actually won an award but either Hank or Bruce said that the EMI engineers had voted it the best thing to come out of the company...
