The Berkshire Shadows Club will be celebrating 50 years of Shadows music with a Rock n’ Roll Concert to raise funds for Children in Need. Hot on the heels of Cliff and The Shadows’ European tour, four leading Shadows Tribute Bands will stage an evening of nostalgia with a string of hits including Apache, FBI and Wonderful Land.

Graham Hyde, organiser of the event and a keen guitar player himself says ‘This is a not to be missed event for any true Shadows fan. We will have lots of fun and are confident that we will make a significant contribution to the Children in Need appeal’

In the late 50s and 60s Cliff and The Shadows dominated the British popular music scene, notching up 19 number one hits. The Shadows became stars in their own right establishing ‘The Shadows Sound’ and inspiring thousands of budding guitarists to try emulating them, and here they are still going strong! It’s the country’s secret cult, with hundreds of members in Shadows Clubs across the country.

Headlining the Concert will be The Shadowers - established 2008 led by ex Foot Tappers lead guitarist Justin Daish, famed for his uncanny resemblance to Hank Marvin. Steve Longden on rhythm guitar recently stood in for Bruce Welch at a gig in Essex, Nigel Parsler is on drums and Matthew Green on keyboard. Special guest on bass guitar, is Alan Jones who featured on all Shadows albums between 1979 and 1989.

The Silver Shadows is the Surrey Shadows Club resident band, founded and led by drummer and vocalist Chris Kenward. Formed in 2002 they are known for their attention to detail. Each number is carefully crafted to match the Shadows original distinctive sound. Paul Larkin on rhythm guitar and vocals, Stephen Swann on lead guitar and backing vocals and bass guitarist Eric Pole, a founder member of the group. Chris and Eric are also founders of the Berkshire Shadows Club and Eric is on the organising committee of the Children in Need Concert.

The Driftin’ Shadows is Reading’s top Shadows tribute band and has gained a cult following with gigs at Rock of Ages, Rock in the Rec and The Woodley Carnival. Well known in the Shadows community, Chris Wright on drums leads the band, with Brian Haycock lead guitar and backing vocals, Frank Glasspool on rhythm guitar and backing vocals and Paul McManus on bass guitar. Bob Dore is a genius keyboard player, whilst Ashley Stone on vocals will take you through all the favourites, from Livin’ Doll and Bachelor Boy to Summer Holiday and The Young Ones. They are much in demand for gigs across the county. .

The Shadders – The South Coast’s answer to Cliff and The Shadows! Geoff Bearpark on lead guitar used to play in a band in the late 70s and 80s with fellow musicians John Aylett on rhythm guitar, Barry Sutton on bass guitar and ‘Nobby’ Glover on drums. They formed The Shadders in 2003 and added Bob Dore on keyboard and John Gray as a second guitarist. Jet Harris, the Shadows first bass guitarist, joined them at a gig last year earning the band a rousing ovation.

Between sets there will be an auction for Shadows memorabilia and equipment, including a special edition Burns Guitar.

There's a mention of this gig on page 11 of the October edition of Guitar Techniques. Hope it pulls in a few fans.
