Let's hope the UK Customs officials believe that one!

I wondered exactly that. Hopefully Jim'll have some appropriate documentation from NAMM.

Martin.

I'm not sure that paper work would make any difference, even gifts coming from the USA are subject to Customs charges if they exceed a certain value, it's not about how you acquired it, it's about the value of the item. That said, I've know others to come home with guitars and walk straight in without any hassle, so he might be lucky ......... and even if he has some charges to pay, he'll still be lucky. ;)

May be he'll have to apply some "road worn" treatment to the guitar, so it doesn't look new !... ;)

Well, I came through the red channel at Heathrow, and declared the guitar and its source. Charges: £NIL.

JN

PS: Three cheers for United AIrlines, who allowed me to bring the guitar on as extra hand luggage at no charge, and when it wouldn't fit into an overhead bin*, stowed it in a flight attendant's wardrobe locker for me.

[* It would have fitted in the locker on a 747, but the ones on 777s are short by comparison.]

A few months ago, A Spanish fan came to one of our Shads' meeting in France by plane. He brought his own "travel guitar" made from a cheap Strat copy with two modifications : The original screws used to join the neck to the body were repaced by allen screws for easier dismounting (and avoid carrying a screwdriver), and the head was shortened so the dismounted guitar could easly be carried as hand luggage !
