Warning - fake Shadows CD

Hi all,

the below pictured CD is distributed via various sources, including Amazon (Germany). The tracks are NOT performed by the Shadows, the arrangements are quite weird and the disc is a CD-R. It seems to originate from Germany as on the back inlay above the bar code 'Manufactured by Amazon.de GmbH, Leipzig, Germany' is printed.
I just wanted to let everybody know to avoid disappointment when someone should order a copy.

This looks like "Another side of the Shadows" which has been discussed elsewhere on these pages. Some interesting arrangements but not the Shadows - unless it's slipped through from a parallel universe...

Hmm, they seem to have managed to double the length of Dance on and FBI, they must be playing them slower!

My personal opinion on this onslaught of the various "best of the Shadows" CDs with the expired copyright tunes is: How many of these albums are actually being purchased? Even with the royalty-free aspect, it costs money for an entrepreneur to have a batch manufactured and put up for sale. Could that investment really pay off? Maybe most of you are in the same situation as me -- I'd be more than happy to buy a new Shadows (or Cliff) album if it has at least one song on it that I don't currently have on my iPod. But if it is the same old compilation of the original studio recordings of Apache, Dance On, etc. etc., I already have more copies of those songs than I can count.

I hope this "expired copyright stuff" backfires on anybody who tries to make a profit from it. Go ahead and print up a couple thousand bootleg copies of "the Shadows greatest hits" and see if more than 10 or 15 copies are sold.

This is obviously not The Shadows, in fact there are some very different versions of some of the tracks.
I think where it is misleading is in the name and title.
It is I think an album called The Shadows by a group called Dance On, a very clever & misleading use of words
based on peoples interpretation of what they see or believe they see

You are absolutely right. If the title would include something like 'performed by ...' I would have no problems at all as you cannot argue about the interpretation of the tracks, this is a question of personal taste.
What makes me cross is that Amazon (USA, UK and Germany at least) list this CD with 'The Shadows' as artists including the link to The Shadows artist page. The minimum care I would expect is that they at least check what they put into their catalog. I have informed Amazon Germany five days ago about this matter but they seem to have no interest in changing the listed artist for this CD. Could possibly influence sales.

Anyhow, there mustn't be many Shadows' fans left who don't already have the original recordings for these tunes on several vinyls and/or CDs and who could be interested by such a CD !
