When was this photo taken?

Postby donna plasky » 26 Jan 2012, 05:01

Hello, everyone. May I ask for your expertise on something? Below is an image of one of my favourite photos of The Shadows. I bought a copy of it through Amazon.com.

I was wondering what year you think it is from...and possibly where it is from? I thought maybe it's from the set of either Cliff's old TV show, or maybe someone else's TV show, like LuLu or Cilla Black? My guess as to the year is maybe 1965?

With both Brian Bennett and John Rostill being in the photo, I figured that would limit the possibilities of what year it could be from. Just curious, as I really like this photo of them.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Best wishes,
Donna

I would venture 1964 or 1965. This photo looks like it could have come from the photoshoot that also produced the shots that appear on the vinyl LP ' Dance with The Shadows', released in 1964.

Kindest regards

I have seen shots from that session before - and I'd be fairly confident that they are from the spring/summer of 1965.

This would have been at what were then ATV's Elstree TV studios during the making of a series of several Cliff Richard / Shadows television spectaculars which were shown that summer (all of which still exist in the Carlton Television archive).

I would say that Jim is 100% correct. Donna asked me the same question last year. I couldn't be absolutely certain - so I think that I ventured 1965 / 1966. Thus, on reflection, I agree with Jim's (as ever) deduction.

Certainly, Hank and John were reported not to be getting on too well towards the breakup in 1968! :(

Not sure if the image has been reversed or not!

Me too! John appears in the first picture to have a watch on his right wrist.

How can you not get on with Hank? He seems such an easy going guy!
