MGP 1975

Looking back in my Shadows collection, I came up on this MGP in 1975,
Bruce forgot the words,(by the way, he did it very well) and they should have won!!!
But, how was it that The Shadows played for GB.?
Where there some election on BBC, or did they call BBC," hey, we want
to be in this contest", or.....how did it work out? :
Somebody, shear a light on this...
I'm from Norway, I think we have won 2 times?

BBC Television Executive Bill Cotton Jr asked them to play Eurovision after seeing the re-formed band play at a memorial concert for a BBC producer.

Ironic that a band known generally for their instrumentals should represent the UK in a SONG contest!!!

Let Me Be The One should have won. No question about it. I believe that it WAS in the lead, until the UK judges awarded the Dutch maximum points and they, the Dutch, responded by giving us ONE. Yeah, in more ways than one! LMBTO is a great song and I doubt that anyone could have performed it better. One of my friends, a musician, referred to it as a 'Masterclass in vocal harmony'.

Personally, I think that one or two of the other Eurovision vocals should have been released as singles as well, especially Don't Throw It All Away and Stand Up Like a Man, both of which I think could have been huge hits.

What I also find amazing (in a good way) is that songs by both John Farrar (No, No, Nina) and Brian Bennett (This House Runs on Sunshine) were shortlisted for the contest, I say this because I believe that the judges who choose them have no idea in advance who has written them. An amazing co-incidence, but one that shows how good they were as song writers.

Thank's for that. I agree, great songwriters,
and, a top vocal group. I can only repit what has been said
thousands of times before,MWF was a exellent group, they deserved much better respons.
I never seen MWF in consert, but if had, I would never asked for Apache, Atlantis,
etc, as I understand many of the fans did at that time.
Btw, any news about Ben Marvin, what is he doing now?

Indeed, very classy harmony vocals.
Stand Up Like a Man was released as a single here in NZ - from memory it was coupled with Let Me Be The One.
It did receive considerable air play, but never made our charts.

and Don't Throw It All Away was a hit for Gary Benson (who co-wrote it) in the U.K.
