Expresso Bongo

Postby PeterT » 09 Feb 2012, 15:35

Dear all,

My first post :D

When Johnny enters the club, and dances, the Drifters are 'playing' a tune (Expresso Bongo?) did they record it or is it another artist?

Hello, Peter, and welcome.

From memory, in that scene, The Shadows are playing an extended instrumental introduction to the Cliff Richard song Love, which was featured on the soundtrack EP.

Hank is playing the original red Stratocaster, Bruce is playing his (formerly Hank's) black Vega and Jet is playing a Framus Star Bass.

Hope this helps.

The only instrumental from the film to be (re)recorded by the Shadows for issue on the Expresso Bongo EP is "Bongo Blues".

Sometime, I must get round to actually seeing the film!

The instrumental referred to by Peter was this one (I'm sure):

And it is a version of the song Love.

Great how the guys turned their volume down to allow the actors to speak without raising their voices!

Can't argue with that, Jim, and it's certainly never been issued on commercial disc.

As far as I know it wasn't. There was only a 4 tracks EP for "Expresso Bongo" :
1. Love
2. A Voice In The Wilderness
3. The Shrine On The Second Floor
4. Bongo Blues (instrumental)

Is that tune played in the scene where Hank says 'Oh, I feel so cool'...?

I like Expresso Bongo- Cliff's best film in my view.

With The Shads and the gorgeous Sylvia Syms too!
