Bruce Welch and Marty Wilde to unveil Blue Plaque for Jet

Postby audreyk » 10 Feb 2012, 10:15

Hi Everyone,

I’m pleased to be able to update you with some news about the Blue Plaque unveiling and the Heritage Foundation Memorial Lunch in tribute to Jet, which will take place on Sunday 1 April. Bruce Welch and also Marty Wilde have confirmed that they will unveil the Blue Plaque together with Janet Hemingway and Chris Tremlett, Jet’s aunt. The Plaque will be sited at the Kingswood Centre, Honeypot Lane, London NW9 9QY which stands on part of the site of the former Kingsbury Hospital where Jet was born.

As announced at the end of last year, the unveiling ceremony will be followed by a Memorial Lunch in tribute to Jet at The Marriott Hotel, Regents Park, London NW3 3ST. Tickets cost £78 which includes wine with the lunch and entertainment.

The lunch will be hosted on behalf of the Heritage Foundation by Jeffrey Holland (from ‘Hi-De-Hi’) who is a big fan of Jet and the Shadows. Bruce and Marty will be joining us for the Memorial Lunch and guests also include Dave Berry and Mike Berry.

There will be an afternoon of entertainment which will include performances by The Shadowers with Alan Jones and also Zoe McCulloch and Kevin Dean.

Tickets are available from David Graham, Chairman of the Heritage Foundation, on the Heritage Foundation credit card ticket hotline 020 834 29953. Tickets are selling fast and are limited to 250 so please book early to avoid disappointment. David has asked me to let everyone know that you can call this number anytime between 9:00am and 10:00pm any day (with the exception of Sunday 12 February).

Coaches will be available for those wanting transport from the unveiling ceremony to the Marriott Hotel. The cost will be £5 per person. Please book your seat when booking for the event.

We hope that as many people as possible will be able to come to the Heritage Foundation’s special event in tribute to Jet. I’ll post further information as soon as I receive it but, in the meantime, please PM or email me if you need any more details - or for more information about the Heritage Foundation please go to: http://www.theheritagefoundation.info/index.html

Best wishes

Great news indeed! A great honour for Jet. Very fitting that Bruce and Marty will unveil the plaque (as they 'topped and tailed' Jet's career playing major venues and touring) along with Janet Hemingway and Chris Tremlett. On behalf of the J H M Fund I would just like to say a huge 'Thank You' to Audrey Knapp and Barry. I know that Audrey cannot (nor would not) 'blow her own trumpet'. But I think that it's only right and proper for everyone to know that Audrey and Barry have put in an enormous amount of time and effort to help get all of this organised. They do it all willingly and voluntarily. The end result (in conjunction with the Heritage Foundation) will be a fantastic event in Jet's memory. By April the 250 tickets will probably be sold out. It promises to be a happy and memorable day for all concerned. Although it will soon be a year since Jet sadly passed away....his memory and musical legacy does indeed live on.

Rob :)

I'm sorry that I'll miss this, but unfortunately, it's the same weekend as the spring Tilburg fan meeting. :(

I'd have thought that this event in London would have been the perfect 'get out' Jim.

Hi,

Jim – sorry that this clashes with the Tilburg event. I know that several people won’t be able to come to the Blue Plaque unveiling and memorial lunch because they will be at Tilburg all weekend. David Graham, the chairman of the Heritage Foundation, tried to book the Marriott Hotel for as close as possible to the anniversary of Jet’s death. Sunday 1 April was the nearest available date.

I now have some more news about who will be attending. Vicki Michelle (the new president of the Heritage Foundation) will co-host the Memorial Lunch with Jeffrey Holland and Mike Berry will be performing some vocal numbers with the Shadowers but, we're sorry to announce that, sadly, Alan Jones will be unable to attend due to a minor health problem.
More news soon …

Best wishes
