Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster ‘50s Fiesta Red

Hi all,

I looked at it at the NAMM show with Jim Nugent and I liked it so much that I wanted to buy the floor model.
For the price, it's a superb deal. They have improved so much the Squiers, the neck is terrific.

Classic Vibe Stratocaster® '50s, Maple Fingerboard, Fiesta Red (the neck is yellower and the FR is much sharper in reality, see links above).

Would you choose the Classc Vibe 50`s or the "Biffy Clyro" model? What are the significant differences in both guitars? Whats the better choice
for Shadows stuff.

It seems that the "Biffy Clyro" and "Simon Neil" models are one and the same. The main obvious difference is the rosewood fingerboard instead of the maple one on the "standard" Squier Classic Vibe 50'.
I don't know if there are other differences.

The Simon Neil Signature model has slightly different pickups from the normal Classic Vibe guitar. Like Tony, I bought one over a year ago and think it is great.

I have the classic vibe and it really is a fantastic guitar. Has anybody seen the new 70s squier vintage modified? They do it in black and looks very reminiscent of Hanks black strat.

Yes... I saw it at the NAMM show (with Abel).

I didn't pick it up - the large 70s headstock just isn't for me (I'm a 1960s, R/N, small headstock, Kluson tuners, three-ply white scratchplate fan), but you're right about it resembling Hank's famous black Strat.

Like Jim, I am not a fan of the big headstock, or maple 'boards but I was struck by the Squier's resemblance to Hank's Fender. A local branch of Cash Convertors had a Squier Tele Custom in black which said 'John Farrar' to me... but not quite loud enough to drown out the other voice saying "No more guitars!!!"

I have two of the most basic models of Squiers (Bullets) and love em After doing a bit of work on them I'd even go as far as to say they are way much better instruments than the Japanese Strat I purchased in the eighties, both in sound quality and playability, the only criticism being the crappy trem system they instal in them. But you cant really expect that to be of good quality given the price of the guitar in the first place(£70/80 at the time) but can easily and fairly cheaply rectified to make it better.
Although the sound quality is good on them both from the standard pickups, I upgraded one with Seymour Duncans a while back, the difference being, I did'nt really have to to get a good tone but on the Japanese Strat it was a necessity as the pickups on that one sounded really cheap and nasty and I had to upgrade to get a decent sound out of it
Dont know what kind of kit they put in these guitars at the time but they were utter crap. I really wish at the time I'd checked out the Squiers of the day before buying that rubbish.
I'm of a mind to get a Squier Tele now once I see one that I like. Once again, there are some really good ones out there for the way much lesser cost than a Fender

the 'Classic Vibe' range have about four Tele models if I remember correctly. A '50s one in slightly transparent 'Vintage White' with Maple board & Black scratchplate. A '50s one in Butterscotch with Maple board & Black scratchplate (like a Fender '51 Broadcaster). A '60s Custom model in 3-tone sunburst, Rosewood board, bound body edges & white 3-ply scratchplate. Lastly there is a Thinline (hollow-bodied) model.

The differences are, for the 'Biffy' model :
A. a Rosewood board
b. a Mint 3-ply scratchplate
C. Alnico V magnets under the E, A & D strings & Alnico III magnets under the G, B & E strings.
