Dave, Derek & Jim, thank you for your kind words, it is very humbling for me to know that Ade was thought of in a good way...... he didnt regard his knowledge of Shads related things as any better than other fans, and he was always enthusiastic & pleased to share what he knew.

Can it really be 5 years now? I echo everything that Derek, Jim and everyone else has said. I miss Ade's 'phone calls as he was (as others have said) an absolute mine of Shadows information and always so full of fun and enthusiasm. Plus, he was a fantastic guitarist. I really used to love it when, to 'illustrate' a point he wolud just say "Hang on a minute Rob, I've just got to grab my guitar & position the 'phone...." He would then quite often just 'reel off' guitar licks down the telephone for ages and ages (but it was great to listen to). Plus...of course...way back in 1997 he invited me to a very special event in Marston Magna because a) he knew I'd enjoy it and b) he wanted me to do a write up. Initially he told me that he was putting a new band together - with himself on rhythm, Alan Jones on bass, Bob Watkins on drums and Phil Kelly on lead. What he didn't tell me was that he'd also invited a certain Mr Bruce Welch along too! Ade's hope all along was that it would (as it did) get Bruce playing again on a more regular basis. We all know the outcome & it was all down to Ade setting it up. Also at Marston Magna I'll never forget Lesley's amazing recreation of the Simpkins Youth Club backdrop. Brilliant!! God bless you both.

Rob :)

Many thanks Rob, thought I would share these pics of the Marston Magna rehearsal (showing the Simpkins backdrop you refer to!) with you & all members. The date was July 20th 1997 & they are from a 35mm film, not digital, so the clarity is not so good.
Happy days. :D
Cheers
Lesley
ps. I still have the backdrop, rolled up....it added an extra dash of fun to the day. :)

I hardly recognise Ade from those pics up there, this is how I remember him in the 60s. The pic is too big I know.
