Even after complete deletion is no longer an option, you can still edit the post, perhaps changing it into " ".

im still not clear about whats being said here. if what is being said that i cant delete a post once a reply is posted is the reason i dont have a delete option in edit is not right. i should have the right to delete any post i started. i dont have the right to delete answers but i should have the right to delete my own posts and replies within that post if i so wish.

You can "delete" it by editing it so as to remove or change the text. The post will still be there, but it needn't say what you originally said. In fact, it needn't say anything at all. You can. if you wish, edit it so that it is blank.

Then replace the text with something innocuous, like 100 underscores.

yes jim i know i can replace it with something but why. i cant see why it cant be left blank or completely removed altogether which would be a better option. hoping some moderator or administrator can come in here. tony

The lack of facility complained about is actually built into the software... we didn't write it, we just use it... it's free and that's why there is no charge for membership here and no intrusive adverts. But I would appreciate members hitting the Donate button every now and then as a thankyou to Bob who provides us with a server and maintenance free of charge too...
