That is wonderful, Jay. Except for a few series (The Avengers, The Prisoner), UK TV did not make it to Manila. That remains true to today. So, although I knew the tune was the theme of a TV series, I had never seen any episode of it. So, thank you.

I must say The Shadows' version is more menacing - one of my favorites.

White strats and Norrie playing piano at the Taboo Club... wonder if Alfred Marks's boys ever "visited" the 2 Is? ;)

Andy

Just to clarify, The Frightened City was a feature film, not a TV series. When the Shadows played the number 'live' in the 80s, they used to joke about giving Sean Connery his first big break...

Alfred Marks, eh?

I remember seeing him at the Royal Shakespeare Company, playing Sir John Falstaff.

What I can't work out is how they got former Prime Minister Clement Attlee (by then, the 1st Earl Attlee) to play the senior police officer ("Assistant Commissioner, Crime") at 00.17:43 et seq.

Bruce Seton - a good lookalike, previously Fabian of Scotland Yard. If ever an actor had been required to play Attlee, he would have been the man! :)

You are probably thinking of this opening .this was a TV series , this is the original opening credits
they did change it to a more up tempo version later on.
notice the bust turning, this is what Hank Marvin simulates when playing man of mystery.

The Edgar Wallace Mysteries was a film series, too, produced at the Merton Park studios in Wimbledon. There was a similar TV series about the same time, The Scales Of Justice, presented by Edgar Lustgarten, also filmed at Merton Park.

The Edgar Wallace Mysteries (Man of Mystery theme) and The Scales of Justice were both 'B' film series shown with feature films at the cinema. They were later shown on TV - most likely at 10:30 p.m. on Monday nights on ITV.
