spooky or what?

Postby John M » 25 Mar 2012, 21:51

Messages whizzing back and forth re. the cover on "as good as it gets"....
Well today while visiting some relatives out in the sticks I happened across one of the local hotels holding a record and dvd event.
Having a wander around the stalls I came up with some vinyl singles (FBI, Wonderful Land, Flingle Bunt) all in very good nick for £1.00 apiece.... But also an almost pristine pressing of the The Shadows..the one with THAT cover photo for the princely sum of £2.00....although the cover itself is showing its age with slight yellowing of the back panel.
If that topic hadnt been running, I probably woudnt have given that event a second glance... spooky eh?

Also.. Looking at some of the pictures of Shadows albums the labels are the familiar Columbia with the lettering in blue ink against a black label.... the label on this one is green with gold lettering bearing the statement "Long Playing Microgroove".

John, that's a great find, congratulations. I am sure you played it cool, like "How much for this...£2.00 8-) Yes, I suppose I could take it off your hands for that price, let me think about it for a moment."

I, on the other hand, would likely have jumped up and down and said "Look at this :o The Shadows' first album!" Yes, and the price just went up to £25.00 :D .

Enjoy,
Donna

What luck, John! And quite a coincidence. I think that is a sign for you to concentrate on perfecting the pieces in that album.

I have given up records for decades now and no longer have a turntable. I know that their analog siund is superior, but also accept that I will probably be distracted by the clicks and pops. I love the album covers though and regret their disapperance when CDs came in. With CDs about to disappear too, in time even the limited art and liners found in them will disappear. What a loss.

After I mentioned in the Madeleine Cookie Company Facebook site (MMC is the musical company that produces retro shows we play in) that I wish I still had my old Ventures' Walk Don't Run album, a friend from Singapore found a mint copy in New York and sent it to me. I probably will never play it, but have it standing on a side desk in my office. I love it.

I now have to get the very first Shadows album.

My best from the tropics,

Andy
