As some of you may know, Joop and Jolanda had their main business in the catering industry and owned a company called MacMoen. They regularly went shopping at wholesale business Makro, where I worked in the evenings during my college period, in the early 2000's. I remember the very first time I saw Joop and also Ferry, which was at Motel Van Der Valk in Eindhoven in late 2000, when Joop took over the organisation of the fan meetings from Ton Verhagen.

With our band "Echoes From The Past" we were rehearsing the numbers we were going to play together with Brian 'Licorice" Lockin' when somebody turned in to announce us that Joop passed away. Everybody was in shock and some of us were very emotional !

What a great friend and a fantastic man Joop was !! We all will miss him terribly !

Anyway, as so many people came especially from abroad to attend this meeting ( Denmark, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, France ) the people who helped Joop to organise the meeting decided to go on and to ask the bands to play their sets.

The atmosphere was gone but the bands did their best to play as a tribute to Joop and Jolanda.
Highlights were Jens Varmlose and his friends from Denmark, Indra and friends from Switzerland, The Hundows from Budapest.

RIP Joop, you were an fantastic ambassador for the music of The Shadows and Cliff Richard !

My sincere condolences to Joop's family

Joop & Jolanda were the most generous hosts of what has now become a true 'Shadows Institution'. Their speciality was spotting, encouraging and promoting new bands and singers. My colleagues and I were proud to have been in one of those featured by Jolanda and Joop on more than one occasion; and it was they who, without hesitation or quibbling over costs, funded our 'dream come true' when we recorded our first CD at Honeyhill with Warren and Dick. It was like being handed a winning lottery ticket each! My abiding memory will be of Joop meeting us at Brussels airport with the news that "your CD is Album of the Week, Belgian radio, 3 weeks running!!" If you knew that wonderful bear of a man, perhaps you can imagine his face beaming from ear to ear. I'll never forget it, and I guess that goes for Dave, Terry and Chris too. Rest In Peace, Joop & Jolanda. The world is truly a sadder place without you.
Mart.

My deepest condolences to the family and to the Shadows community.

I have'nt met any of them, but the sorrow of the members is a testimony to the
human quality of Joop Moen and his wife.

My father and I went to the funeral on Friday the 6th of April, 2012 in Leusden. The music selected for the service was The Shadows' "Theme From The Deer Hunter (Cavatina)" and "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", Brian Locking's "Time To Say Goodbye", a version of "La Comparsa" and an instrumental I don't know the title of. There were quite a few familiar people present, which we know from the fan meetings. I have a strong feeling the fan meeting of the 31st of March/the 1st of April, 2012 has been the last one in The Netherlands. I don't know if any person or organisation is willing to organise it in the future.
