I have had an Amtech Pro since they first came out and I use it a lot. Nick McNulty has an AGE 1 which he thinks is the best thing since Mothers Pride. Phil you have done a few gigs with both of us so you know the echo is more than acceptable. I too will always say a tape based Meazzi or replica of one ( I bought one of Erics Echomatic 6 head units) is the better option but I think the Amtech has a lot going for it in terms of flexibility, reliability and of course availability. All of this stuff is as subjective as the right Fiesta Red, which Vox amp sounds best etc etc. by the way I'm pretty certain Barry has an AGE 1 and not a Pro.

How very true, however, I've previously owned both the Amtech and Atlantis and to my ears, there were no audible differences other than the programmed echo patterns. I also spoke with Geoff Strachan and he wouldn't rate one more highly than the other, but I reckon with the 5 virtual heads and controls to vary the head feedback/volumes, it is more flexible than the Atlantis, hence my tracking another one down.

Re Meazzi's, I hear all this talk about them and I've got to say at the outset, I've never owned one. I have however heard PK's (more than anyone else's) at Shadowmania over the years, and if that's the Meazzi sound, keep it. It suffers from distortion, very thin and tinny sounding and nothing in what it produces, would attract me to shelve out mega bucks to own one. On the other hand, Justin's sound last year, was the best ever from any of the groups at any of the Shadowmanias and better than anything that PK (sound wise) has produced over the years, so I guess there are good ones about (if you can find them). Would have been interesting to hear PK play through JD's rig, that may have answered a few questions.

I don't claim to be a great player, I don't have top of the range gear, but what I do have, produces a sound that entertains the audiences that we play for and that's what matters to me. I would get no joy or pleasure playing in front of Shads anoraks, because I wouldn't be playing it in the correct position, or the echo wouldn't be right and so it goes on. I play for pleasure and will continue to do so, but I can recognise a good sound when I hear it.

Hi again.
Quite right Howard Barry did use the AGE-1 on the first CD. One of our Shadows is missing. PRO used on the other two.
Regards Geoff.

Well said Alan ? ? Here we go again, Mr Mckillop with his usual personal affray of bollocks.
If for one moment i thought you had a clue what you are talking about, which is obviously never going to be the case i would try to offer constructive help to you, and the pair of sheep that are obviously in your fanclub.
What can you tell me ? You critisise yet you cant even hear the difference between an Amtech and a Atlantis, i applaud your incredible perception in observing distortion from my Meazzi, at least it shows you were paying attention and listening, something that you need to do a lot of instead of spouting off, funny thing is i could have sworn on all the early recordings it was present there as well ? strange though, you would imagine a certain r/player in the band might have said something in passing , there again what does he know.
one thing, You are right to say you wouldnt waste money buying a Meazzi, it would be a waste of time for you , you see unlike all your other gadgets you have to play the sound, which is something i guess that will go straight over your head.
Dont normally rise but what a load of s..t

You can't help but make it personal, can you? There is nothing in my post which is personal, just my observations on 'sound' which you and others have produced over the years, and it was just my opinion. You seem to be able to have and express your opinion, but nobody else seems entitled to express theirs. The thread was about the Amtech Age Pro and you brought the Atlantis and Meazzi into it and I gave my opinion on the Meazzi (like you did on the Age Pro) units that I have heard, so what was wrong with that?

Anyway, I'll not stoop as low as you, suffice to say that if you were chocolate, you'd eat yourself ....... what a result that would be. :D

The Meazzi "distortion" is 100% part of Hank's early sound. Modern echo box can't emulate it because their sound is far too "clean"...

Slating my sound on a public board as you have done many times before is personal, and you know exactly where its going to lead, thats why you do it,
and as far as chocolate goes i think its you that likes the sound of your own voice, perhaps you should stick to making movies ,
" Hank Marvin in concert " as DIRECTED BY ALAN MCKILLOP !! believe me , we all had a great laugh at that one.

Just for clarity, it was George Geddes who made the video cover as I didn't have the appropriate PC program, but carry on, I'm enjoying this .... you've got to be good at something. :D
