All of this stuff is as subjective
How very true, however, I've previously owned both the Amtech and Atlantis and to my ears, there were no audible differences other than the programmed echo patterns. I also spoke with Geoff Strachan and he wouldn't rate one more highly than the other, but I reckon with the 5 virtual heads and controls to vary the head feedback/volumes, it is more flexible than the Atlantis, hence my tracking another one down.
Re Meazzi's, I hear all this talk about them and I've got to say at the outset, I've never owned one. I have however heard PK's (more than anyone else's) at Shadowmania over the years, and if that's the Meazzi sound, keep it. It suffers from distortion, very thin and tinny sounding and nothing in what it produces, would attract me to shelve out mega bucks to own one. On the other hand, Justin's sound last year, was the best ever from any of the groups at any of the Shadowmanias and better than anything that PK (sound wise) has produced over the years, so I guess there are good ones about (if you can find them). Would have been interesting to hear PK play through JD's rig, that may have answered a few questions.
I don't claim to be a great player, I don't have top of the range gear, but what I do have, produces a sound that entertains the audiences that we play for and that's what matters to me. I would get no joy or pleasure playing in front of Shads anoraks, because I wouldn't be playing it in the correct position, or the echo wouldn't be right and so it goes on. I play for pleasure and will continue to do so, but I can recognise a good sound when I hear it.
