R.I.P Bert.
A true Gentleman, a Showman and a supreme guitar player.
It was down to scarlet fever and his Play In A Day book that I learned to play the guitar at all.
I once played on the same Bill as Bert in 1964 (Carlisle Club, Eccles) and was in awe of his stage presence and big white guitar.
Thank you for the music, Bert.

Thanks Bert for teaching me how to play. I even moved on from Play In a Day to Play Every Day! What would we have all done without him. RIP Bert.

It brought a tear to my eye also.

Coincidentally there's a nice article on Bert in the current issue of Vintage Rock magazine - issue No. 2, (Buddy Holly on front cover).

Very sad news indeed. God bless you, Bert.

My copy of Play In A day disappeared years ago but, strangely enough, I came across the revised and updated edition (2006, I think) a couple of weeks ago at a friend's house and I remember thinking, "I'm not too old to learn something from this."

The final curtain call for another fine musician. This is very sad news indeed.
I have much of his material in my collection and will listen tonight to some of my favourites -
Nashville Boogie, South of the Border, not forgetting Guitar Boogie and Mr Guitar.
RIP Bert.
