Here's my recording of Nashville Boogie - one of the first tunes I played in public way back when.
I still have my copy of Play In A Day.

RIP Bert.

A few years ago Maureen and I went on our / pilgrimage to the London Guitar Show .When we stopped at the Ovation stand she noticed a well dressed gentleman standing looking at the guitars with intrest ,he took a guitar of the wall and sat down ,putting his hand in his pocket he looked up at me and asked "Do you have a pick i could use " I gave him my plectrum with a heartfelt thank you .On leaving the Ovation stand my wife said "do you know that man "my reply was every one playing a guitar in this building knows him , this day is because and due to him Mr Bert Weedon OBE

RIP Bert and a BIG THANK YOU

Very sad news...RIP
Coincidentally, browsing through a pile of old 78`s last weekend in Helsinki at a flea-market stand,I found a interesting item This was Bert`s 1957 recording of "Twilight theme" / "Theme from ITV`s 64.000 question", ODEON PLE 291. A licence (?) domestic Finnish presssing of the original British Parlophone release.

Sadly, we are losing our guitar icons too often now. It just shows how much importance and affection we all attached to these early Legends who inspired our lifetime of guitar playing. I was honoured to have met him at the NEC a few years ago - and yes, he was a gentleman. God bless him.

There must be one hell of a band forming up there... Jet, are you listening...

Really sad to hear about Bert's death. My first inspiration to take up guitar.
He wrote and played some great pieces including "Teenage Guitar" "Nashville Boogie", "Fury", "Ginchy" and "Red Guitar" with some excellent arrangments of standards such as "Dark Eyes", "It happened in Monterey" and "Sorrie Robbie".
I wrote a piece called "Weedon's Way" many years ago which I sent to Bert for his opinion on. He responded with a very complimentary letter which I still have.

Best wishes

Tony

We can only wonder if the guitarists we know and love in the UK would have got as far as they have were it not for Bert's Play In A Day helping them play their first notes. Thanks for that Bert, we owe you a lot.

RIP Bert.
