Yes - saw it (and posted a warning here about its being shown).

I can't say I was too impressed with the female singer (definitely not my type of stuff), but of course, Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo were on hand... ;)

I was first introduced to Tommy Emmanuel over twenty years ago when Ian Kershaw (of SCOFA) sent me a VHS tape full of his Australian TV appearances.

PBS is "Public Broadcasting Service", a regionalised American broadcaster with a reputation for worthy programming and high artistic standards. It has existed for several decades (I think I first heard of it in the late 1960s or early 1970s) - and it's sort of like the BBC but without the obvious political bias - and without the licence fee, of course! They show adverts and make frequent appeals for voluntary donations and subscriptions.

Like a good many other American broadcasters, they are currently showing a selection of programming for European viewers on a Sky channel (166). The schedule tends to run in 4-hour cycles each day, so if you miss a programme (like the Tommy Emmanuel offering last night at 21:00 BST), it will often be available again a few hours later. And there may be a 1-hour time-shifted version as well.

PBS stands for Public Broadcasting Service here in North America Alan. I don't know if that's the same in the UK, but PBS here have been showing Tommy recently.

And talking of Tommy Emmanuel....He's teamed up with Stochelo Rosenberg of The Rosenberg Trio, which for me is a dream come true as these are two of my favourite guitarists. They're known as The Kings of Strings and are doing concerts in Europe right now as far as I know. A third party playing with them is a guy named Vlatko Stefanovski who I know nothing about, but obviously has to be right up there with the best if Tommy and Stochelo rate him!

I first saw Tommy play live when he was playing lead for Aussie singer Doug Parkinson's Southern Star Band, in about 1979, when they were the support act for Bob Marley & The Wailers on their Aussie tour.

Here's a clip of them from Australian TV, with TE on his old Telecaster - probably one of the earliest Tommy appearances on video. Miming I suspect!

Hi, everyone. After I joined this Shadows site, someone mentioned Tommy Emmanuel...and now I am a fan of his. If you are interested, Tommy's official website has free videos and you can receive automated emails with tour info, advanced ticket sales info, etc. if you sign up for a user name and password. I have signed up and I do receive the emails, but I must confess that I haven't had much time to spend on his website. There is a feature on the website called Tommy TV, which looks really nice.

You were right about PBS, it does stand for Public Broadcasting System. They are based in Virginia, but it's on the border of Washington, DC (our capitol). They do not have commercials/adverts, so most of the PBS operating budget comes from donations from viewers, as well as grants from charitable trusts and foundations, and usually some funding from the federal government.

Kind regards,
Donna
