Knebworth 90 - was the full Cliff & Shads set ever shown?

Postby bgohara » 03 May 2012, 16:53

I've always wondered whether the event was shown live on any TV channels around the world? I know that the audio was broadcast on Radio 1 in the UK on the day - but as far as I'm aware only a few songs were ever shown - either on TV or Video.

From memory, I think that ITV showed highlights of the Cliff & Shads set which included:

- Living Doll
- The Young Ones
- In the Country
- Do you Wanna Dance
- We Don't Talk Anymore

I also know that a few of these, plus maybe a couple of additional songs (On the Beach? ; Good Golly Miss Molly) were included on the video - Volume 1. There were 3 videos in total - and these were edited down to a double DVD in recent years which lost some of the Cliff & Shads originally off the video.

Has anyone ever seen any of the remaining set? I don't know whether it was ever broadcast - but it must exist somewhere...

I also remember taping the Clapton / Dire Straits set off Radio 1 on the day - but have since lost it - if anyone has a copy, I would be most grateful for a copy - of course will cover any costs. If able to help, please PM me.

Many thanks,
Bernie

On the DVD you have On the beach, Good golly miss Molly and We don't talk anymore.
On the former Laserdisc release there was Living doll. Many years ago I shortly borrowed a Laserdisc player with the Knebworth discs and made a copy of it on VHS.

Hi. I just wanted to say that this is another one of those coincidences where one of us (and this time it's me) says: Funny you should mention that, but...

Last night, I was watching all the Cliff and The Shads videos from the Knebworth concert. I am probably the only person who had never seen that concert before, but in any case I came across one video and eventually watched all the ones I could find. There was really a special energy in their performance that day. Hank had his jacket sleeves rolled up a bit, and he was really travelling about, across the stage...which was the first thing I noticed, beside how windy it was that day. Seems like a great concert.

Kind regards,
Donna

Also, on YouTube there's a medley of The Young Ones, In The Country and It'll Be Me. These also appear to have come form a professional release of some sort albeit the colour keeps switching to monochrome so I assume it's another VHS copy...

Bob, that should be I Could Easily Fall In Love With You - Fall In Love With You is a different track altogether...

After watching this it appears that this is from the TV version. Looking at my video database, it seems that I have this one - I'll have to hunt it down in the garage!

Thanks all - I do have a copy of the video and also the tv footage - but I heard that MTV showed at least part of the concert live - so just wondering if this included the Cliff & Shads set (somehow I doubt it)
Thanks, Bernie
