Brian Bennett's activities

Postby iefje » 31 May 2012, 08:43

Does anyone know what Brian is up to these days? There hasn't been a new news entry on his official website for almost three years.

A good clue might be his age, it's possible that he could have retired.

Generally speaking, I believe that Brian is spending lots of time playing golf and 'hanging out' at his villa on the Algarve. Following the Cliff / Shads reunion tour, I think it's fair to say that Brian decided to take life a bit easier after he reached his 70th birthday. There has been no official announcement that he's actually retired....but it sort of looks that way to all intents and purposes. Maybe someone closer to the Shadows knows more than I do.

Rob :)

Haven't they all retired? Since the tour with Cliff all Bruce has done is Shadowmania last year and Hank recorded an album with his jazz friends which it seems is likely never to be released. None of them seem to be persuing a career any longer. Still, at their age and with their wealth, who can blame them.

Although nothng official has been announced - I think that Brian has retired and now just does things which appeal to him - like the KPM Allstars gig already mentioned. On Clem Cattini's Facebook page, he mentions that he's just done a drumming workshop / masterclass with Brian. Clem (who recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Buddy Rich Foundation) was full of praise for Brian's playing. High praise indeed from one master drummer to another. Clem has known Brian for over 50 years and they are good friends. Plus, of course, Clem is a close friend of Bruce's and they see each other regularly.

Bests.....Rob :D

If none of the Shadows have officially announced their retirements, is it a case of "Never say Never again"? or leaving us wanting more?.
When I look at some of the "stars" who will be playing at the Diamond Jubilee concert, I wonder what might have been and perhaps what a fitting end to The Shadows it could have been.

I'd love to know why Stevie Wonder is on the bill. Seriously. Why not Rihanna or Avril Lavigne? Or Alan Price. Or, come to think of it, Olivia Newton-John OBE.

It would have been fitting for it have been Cliff Richard AND the Shadows at the gig - not just Cliff. After all, the Shadows must surely be the UK's oldest surviving legendary pop group - having been around for a few years longer than the Stones. Mind you, they're not playing either.
