Rob
I've gone right off Telstar now I know Mark Thatcher bought a copy!
Jim - Telstar was as you say a big hit in the US, but that doesn't necessarily make it influential in terms of musical style. Green Onions - same year - would I have thought had more of a long term impact on musical trends. But I suspect we are arguing about angels on pin heads. They are all great records which we still enjoy and which I suspect generations to come will enjoy, which is more than can be said for much of today's popular music. As I said earlier, we were lucky to be born into that great era of hits of so many different styles. I would have thought it unlikely that popular music will ever see such major changes as rock n roll, Elvis and the rest in such a short space of time, with an influence that is still around 50+ years later.
Best wishes
Tim
