It was a number one, acknowledged and regarded as such at the time. It was only in relatively recent years that the nit-picking about Record Retailer came about.

I must admit, I thought it was number one in the U.K. also. I was surprised it wasn't on The Beatles' '1' CD, (see my previous post). Ironically Love Me Do was on that album because of its number one status in the U.S.
