Haven't read all of this thread yet, do that in a mo, but just thought I'd comment.

I watched MOST of the Royal gig and thought, generally, it was good.

High points were Jessie J - great voice and looked really happy to be there; Madness on the roof singing 'Our House' - the visuals with the front of the Palace peeling away and becoming a row of terraced houses, was awesome! Kylie - always looks great and seems to enjoy herself. The Fireworks at the end.

Lowpoints; Will.i.am; no doubt he has talents, but singing isn't one of them; Paul McC and Elton (both shouted rather than sang); Cheryl Cole, need I actually say more?

Cliff was disappointing in that he sounded out of tune. I have heard him sing better. Grace Jones was a revelation. Had no idea she was in her 60s! A shame she thought it was the Queen's birthday, though!

All in all, spectacular.

Of course the miserable contingent always have to moan at times like this, accusing the Royal Family of being parasites, etc.. (Probably confusing them with The Royle Family!) But failing to accept that they, the Royals, are not really a waste of money at all, when one considers the high esteem in which they are held throughout the world and the huge amount of money they bring into the country, via tourism, etc... They are one of the things that makes Great Britain unique. Yes, vast amounts of public money ARE wasted, but I dare not even begin to mention how and on whom.

The Jubilee seemed, to me, to bring the nation together and give us a good reason to party and have a good time on a truly monumental scale. For those who insist on whinging, I would suggest you move to China.

All the best,

Chris.

P.S. Shirley Bassey was great too and so was dear old Rolf Harris - a shame that Lenny Henry so rudely interrupted him.

From what I saw I noted that most of todays so called comedians were not very funny and most were quite rude - I think the EGO syndrome took over! Could not just one of them have done all the links!

Hi,

Went to the Elton John concert in Taunton, Somerset, Sunday 3rd June ie night before the Jubilee concert. Elton's voice was right on song as was the entire show. Typically it was outdoors and it rained and rained throughout. If Elton's voice was a bit strained on the Monday it's not surprising given the aweful weather he endured on the Sunday. There is nothing wrong or "passed his sell by date" about Elton, he and the band were absolutely fantastic, the night before.

I believe Sir Elton did well at the concert bearing in mind he has just recently recovered from Pneumonia.

I do think with so many sounding out of tune/flat - there was something wrong with the sound mix/monitors on the night.

I find, having read all the comments on this thread, that this country is broken, in many ways.
Firstly the can do spirit is a thing of the past for many if not most of our citizens.
It seems that moaning, criticising, being negative is the norm today. What ever happened to glass half full.
When you look at the ages of the artists on the show it is amazing that any of them are still appearing. And no not everybody wishes to put themselves up for ridicule by the public in their mature years and many people have indeed retired from the business. Maybe they are the sensible ones.
Sound at a concert such as this must be a nightmare given the number of different acts appearing. When you have concerts at outdoor venues the sound often is below par.
I like some others am a true blue royalist and having lived on another continent where there are Presidents I am very grateful that the monarchy remains in this country.
And as has been stated the cost for the weekend did indeed come from private money, no we did not have our taxes raided at all, unlike so many daft ideas that seem to get a never ending supply of public money.
So overall I believe it was a good weekend, the concert was ok in places, and now I along with the rest of the country can get back to life in the normal lane.
God bless Her Majesty, enjoy your tea m'am.
