Looks closer for me so no problem there but might be for those with heavy equipment.

Why the change Ecca ?
I've only just got the hang of getting to Great Wyrley without getting lost :lol: :lol:

Are we still at Great Wyrley on Tuesday as I've not been for a few weeks

I would think upstairs is not great and am not too keen. If the club we have continues to get supported we can carry on for a while yet as we had a good turnout last tues. Maybe keep trying for a while to find a more suitable location. I do not feel we need to rush into it just yet but we need people to support the club by turning up regulary and paying their contributions. Has anyone tried getting the club to listen to a reduction in room hire cost ? For me £3 is about the price of a beer and am willing to carry on. Upstairs is a bit of a struggle with the amps and PA I feel.

When I first approached Great Wyrley club about having the use of the room, I wrote to the committee stating who we were and what we did.

My request was that we had the room for nothing based on us doing them a gig ( for free ) whenever they might call upon us to do so.
I asked them to take into account that we would all be drinking something, ( as opposed to the very little being consumed at that time
due to no bugger being either in the bar or the concert room ).

The committee agreed to these terms and away we went. We've kept our end of the bargain and performed gratis when required.
I would have to say that the free gig facility has never been abused.

What has annoyed several folks, me included is the fact that it appears that there are new members of the committee who have decided
to impose a charge fo £30.00 for the room, effective immediately. No notice other than a person of substantial girth showing up one night
and demanding immediate payment.

This is not the way things are done.

I feel that a meeting with said committee and seek a reduction in the fee is in order.

I can appreciate that many will feel that we have a good deal considering the price of room rental across the country. They are, of course,
entitled to that opinion. But bear in mind that I shook hands with a man and agreed the above terms a good while ago.
Indeed I have to doubt the wisdom of this discussion in open forum.

So , like the reviews in Guitarist Magazine;

Likes;

Great room. Anybody who has ever visited has said what a good room it is.

Access. No real problems with access both for car parking and getting into the room with equipment.

Volume. No problems with volume. When first I went to Hankies at a pub in Huntington, they had a corner
of a room where other people had been dining and had keep the volume down. ( Like....Down )
And indeed, couldn't start playing until folks had finished eating.

Plenty of seats / tables/ and of course, beer mats to throw at performers.

Decent drinks and good service. No waiting at the bar.

From a selfish point of view it's 15 minutes from my home.

Dislikes;

None. Other than the above mentioned charges.

Hear hear trumpet bottom.
Remember when we first started it ?
There was only you and I there some weeks.
If that were the case now it would cost us £15 each for the privilege.

Yes, I remember that night. It was just you and me and two acoustic guitars.

We played, we chatted, we held hands, we danced and, well, generally got closer than ever.

How could I forget that moment when you stroked my hand, squeezed my fingers so very gently,

looked me right in the eye and said.

"Get the beer in Al I've forgot me wallet".
