Thanks for Nothing, EMI

Postby donna plasky » 19 Jul 2012, 22:18

During the last few days, I've been getting this lovely message on YouTube whenever I try to view Shadows videos posted by the best Shadows fan of them all, Andrewshadowy, whomever he may be. It's not every single video from him, but lots of them.

Thanks a lot, EMI.

Very truly yours
Donna

Aren't they a sad lot! Not interested in using their Shadows material and now it would appear they dont want anyone else to use it or even see it.
Boy, The Shads must have really p---ed them off when they moved to Polydor!!
Its a shame really because this guy had lots of clips on there which were rare. Obviously a serious fan and enthusiast.
Andrew - I am so sorry that all that work keeping The Shadows to the forefront via youtube has come to this
cheers

Perhaps EMI are planning a video release of their own?

Or Perhaps not !

This doesn't make sense, EMI say there's no market for Shadows material yet block it from YouTubewhen they have no intention of releasing it themselves? This is really the last straw, maybe we should go down to EMI head office and hold a protest! :D

Yes....the very same EMI who failed to release a fabulous Shadows At The BBC in 2002. The same EMI who, when faced with numerous sensible alternatives down the years, have personally informed me that they now have absolutely no intention of releasing any such CD as they perceive that there is no interest in nor market for it. The same EMI who by the same token have blocked RPM from releasing the BBC material (which was approved by the BBC....but as the Shadows were EMI recording artists at the time their authorisation had to be sought) claiming that if there was to be any such release, it would be by EMI (completely contradicting what they had said to me). So, they won't release the material and yet they block anyone else from releasing it too. As our North American contingent might say...'Go figure!' Nowadays I'm of the same opinion as the late Bernie Andrews. Almost his last words to John Beecher were "**** EMI!"

Rob :x

YouTube is a two-edged sword though.
Within minutes of acquiring a new DVD, folk will post stuff from it on YouTube. This saves others from buying the DVD and so the artistes are deprived of their reward.
You see it differently when it's your material someone has posted!

Very true.
When EMI releases a Shadows DVD/CD with the archive material upon it, then they can complain and take all the sanctions they like.

I haven't tried the link, but could it be because Donna is US based? I know some items don't navigate the great divide very well, whether it's us in the UK trying to access things in the US and vica versa.

I just had a look at Andreshadowy's YouTube channel, and everything I've clicked on so far has worked fine.

As Alan has suggested, it looks like you can't access the clips because you are on the wrong side of the Atlantic.

You'll just have to move to civilisation donna.
