Hi! I agree with everything you've all said, and yes it's because I am in the US that the videos are blocked. I just found it ironic that EMI would block Shadows and/or Cliff material to the US, of all countries. Not exactly a lucrative market for their work product, unfortunately. I was trying to look at "Lady of the Morning" (circa 1973 maybe?) and it was available by other YouTube presenters, just not from Andrewshadowy.

I'd have actually been less annoyed if the blocking message said that YouTube, not EMI, had reserved the right to block this material. Between Cliff and the Shads (separately and together), I own a lot of albums that say EMI Ltd or EMI America on the label. But then again, they blocked my whole country, not just me personally.

Thanks for listening. I needed to tell someone. I was really angry at the time. :D

Kind regards,
Donna

Hi Donna, The Sony group bought the EMI back catalogue ($2.2bn) so we can expect more of this. regards Gary http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/19/sony-music-buys-emi-publishing/

I understood Sony has only bought their publishing arm.

The record label as such is (currently) being bought by Universal I thought - but subject to EU or the various take over / competition bodies approving the sale to them.

Maybe new owners will have a different attitute to their back catalogue, we can but hope .............

I was thinking recently and EMI's reasoning is that there is no market for Shadows material is flawed, look at the recent chart stats, Hank's last 2 solo albums went top 10 and compilation Life Story went to number 7 (i think). Throw these stats at them and see what they say! :D

So their EMI and Polygram catalogues could both end up being owned by Universal ................

They'll say "Chart numbers are meaningless these days. What matters to us is profit, and Shadows albums have neither the mass appeal or longevity to make it commercially worth our while investing in further releases."

I would imagine.

I would imagine the same. Everyone who was ever going to buy will have done so. Pretty much.
