Guitar Tango and It'll Be Me Babe - Fun Videos

Postby donna plasky » 13 Aug 2012, 01:45

For no other reason than to be light-hearted, I thought I would post these two Shads videos. The first one is what I personally consider to be the most enjoyable performance of Guitar Tango that I've ever seen, due to George Ford's participation. And the second video is a...um....performance...of It'll Be Me Babe, with lead vocals by "Bruce Farrar." :D

Kind regards,
Donna

I have both clips. A pity they were mimed though. There are two true live versions of "Guitar Tango" with George Ford on bass guitar. One from the 24th of March, 1980 at the Paris Olympia and one from the 2nd of April, 1980 at the Doelen Theatre in Rotterdam. I think one or both of them are available on YouTube.

Dear Iefje: Thank you for the info. I looked and found at least one of the two Guitar Tango's you mentioned with George Ford. Here it is. I enjoyed it.

Dear Captainhaddock: I think I see what you mean...the part with the "talking" in the record. You're right, Hank handled that part, and Bruce covered the falsetto. Kind of curious that Alan Tarney, as the New Guy, didn't get stuck with having to mime any of this, but then again maybe Hank and Bruce wanted to do it themselves.

Kind regards,
Donna

"Where's Wally" is a cartoon character, that looks a lot like Hank and his stripy shirt.

People used to say Cliff Hall looked like Jasper Carrott. In that first clip, to me, he's more Jimmy Savile. 'ow's about that then?

Here's a good one. The TV host says to Hank, "I remember there being four Shadows. Where's the fourth one?"

This show was actually recorded in about April of 1983. The Shadows promoted the Dutch single release of "Chi Mai", which was never a single in the UK. The TV show host is our very own Ivo Niehe from the Dutch TV show called simply "De TV Show". The programme still exists on Dutch television and is still presented by Ivo Niehe. You can hear Hank doing some advertising for their concert on the 24th of April, 1983 at the Congresgebouw in The Hague, which Ivo Niehe tries to cover up in Dutch, as advertising was/is not allowed on the show.
