I'd rather have my friends '57 strat for that price, at least it will appreciate in value!

Not so strange. Bruce, Brian, Cliff (Hall) and I think Mark went up to Manchester (I think) for a birthday bash for a rich geezer and he played lead guitar with the others backing him. They were well paid and a flight was laid on, so maybe that's the guy that the seller is referring too.
