What do I remember about that Royal Variety Performance?

Well it was probably the only time Licorice used a Fender Jazz Bass and I remember on the back page of the NME - Teasers by the 'Alley Cat' That it stated: 'On the Royal Variety Performance one of Johnny Dankworth's Orchestra wore the wrong coloured socks'!! It has stuck with me every since!! He must have been there. I certainly didn't notice on my Black and White TV!!

A rare appearance here of Fenders in Fiesta Grey!

Donna_Plasky wrote:...it sounds like Bruce said, 'And now we'd like to introduce to you our vocalist, Cliff Richards."  That is to say...Richards with an "s" at the end of the word.  Do you think this was a little prank?  ;)

One small step for man?
One small step for a man?
You've found another one Donna :)

I can't hear it myself. But I doubt it. Bruce was ever the perfectionist and the Richard surname with no 's' was part of the whole deal.

Other views? :)

I hope my American slang didn't get me in trouble here. By prank I meant a practical joke, not a mistake/fluff. Bruce had a devilish little smile on his face when he referred to Cliff as their vocalist, and I am pretty sure I heard him add a letter s to the end of Richard...which (if he said it) could only be some sort of a joke, mispronouncing his name. You're absolutely right, Bruce is a perfectionist and he would never make a mistake like that. I thought it was funny if Bruce set Cliff up like that, because on live TV it was unlikely that Cliff was going to saying anything in response.

I hope I'm not being a pest. I just thought it was funny. Thanks for your indulgence.

Kind regards,
Donna

Not at all, Donna. I knew what you meant. I think Bruce's smile was because he had reduced Cliff from UK Top Singer to "our vocalist" :)
