Hi,

My Vox DelayLab also arrived this morning and I'm in agreement with Dave on this, I think you have to spend time on the settings.

I managed to get most of the Shads echos I wanted fairly quickly, once I figured out the head spacing !! I play in a pub band, mainly rock/blues stuff, only very occasionally will we throw in a Shads number, so I'm not looking for anything exact, close enough will do. As Dave says, most people would not notice.

Other than the manual being pretty useless and me not being familiar with Vox effects, I think it's a great unit. Lots of capability and variations, most of which I won't use. I reckon it's good value for money and a great all rounder, well built too.

Both my Quads are on their last legs, so this is an ideal replacement. :D

Cheers

Stu

Thanks for that Stu, it's good to know that others realise that you need to put a bit of time and effort into things, instead of wanting everything on a bloody plate. :)

So by inference, Hank obviously has no talent for these things either, then, given most of his digital units were pre-programmed for him by Charlie and he latterly used the TVS3 with all its patches built in? Sometimes, Dave, your replies can be less than tactful, putting it mildly. :!:

I'm perfectly able to work out timings and other such niceties of my echo units but I specifically wanted one that would act as replacement for the Magicstomp and produce (or be made to produce) echoes exactly as I wanted them, rather than vaguely similar. The Vox unit can be programmed to create some that get reasonably close, but reasonably close isn't my goal and whether or not other folk can tell the difference live is neither here nor there because for home recording, where I can quickly recognise an authentic echo, I'd like to recreate certain originals as exactly as possible. Of course not everyone wants to do as I'm doing and the Vox unit is perfectly suitable for general purpose echoes and effects, a few of which are adequate for everyday non-Shads tunes, but for me that's as far as it goes and that's why I made my decision to return it.

You know very well that I wasn't referring to Hank, he did it all back in the day so why would I do that? The EFTP units were very nice and convenient but not entirely perfect - hence I moved on and now do it myself.
I thought my description was clear enough about the capabilities of the Delay Lab, as confirmed by another user who posted his findings. If you wanted something to sound and perform like your Magicstomp, the solution is to buy another Magicstomp, it isn't rocket science. I agree that I'm not very tactful, sorry but I don't believe in pussyfooting around the facts. I am a self taught pro musician who put a great deal of time and effort into understanding my gear and forging a successful career and find it difficult to understand why folks seem to think that they shouldn't put the time in - believe me it's the only way.

I registered here today to let you know that I got the Vox DelayLab from Amazon UK for £165.
It seems to be price fixed on the online Music wesites
Now all I have to do is figure out how to use it.
