Still fascinating! OK - in 1964, Jet harks back to his proposed title from 1962 and, as you say, to tie - in with "Daddy Wouldn't Buy Me A Bren Gun" (a play on "Daddy Wouldn't Buy Me A Bow Wow"????) - "Verge Of World War III" became "Verge Of World War II". Still be great to hear those tracks wouldn't it? Assuming they still exist somewhere of course!!!

But, now several people have mentioned remembering 'the day' or the day of 'the deadline' (when a nuclear holocaust was officially avoided) - so....what was the actual date of this deadline? The time of 3.00pm has been mentioned....but was the date?

24th October 1962 at 10 am Washington time, 3 pm here.

This URL will take you to a good account of those 13 difficult days.

PS - and to keep it on topic (!) 24.10.62 saw the Shadows having just done a short UK tour. They were in the Top 10 with Cliff and It'll Be Me, while Guitar Tango was on its way down the charts. Jet's Man with the Golden Arm had just slipped out of the Top 30. Number One was eerily appropriate in the circumstances - Telstar.

Many thanks Iain. The date and the time both fit. Still, as a 10 yr old most of all that sort of passed me by. But.....the music.....fantastic times!!!!!
