Chet Atkins playing "Man of Mystery"

Postby donna plasky » 13 Sep 2012, 18:16

Hello. I found this on YouTube. I am trying really hard not to think about Shadowmania, but I don't think I am succeeding, huh?

Kind regards,
Donna

Jeff Beck is brilliant doing At Chetkins style. There was a guy called Steve Hounslow who was lead guitar with a group in Barnet called The Starliners around 1964-65, who was very good at that guitar style.

Those videos are nice, Donna. I didn't realize Chet had a version.

More and more, I have begun to really like Chet Atkins. As you might already know, he has an album with Mark Knophler, Donna; no Shadows standards, but worth a listen.

Dear Andy: Hi and thanks for mentioning the Chet Atkins/Mark Knopfler album. I actually bought a copy about a year ago. The album is probably from about 1990 but I bought a copy only recently. Prior to becoming a Shadows fan and also joining this Forum, my music collection was very limited, mostly just Sir Cliff. But last year, I was enjoying Mark Griffiths' album "52 Florence Road" and it became clear to me that Chet Atkins must be one of Mark G's idols. So I thought I would try buying one Chet Atkins album and see if I like it. I found the one with Mark Knopfler ("Neck and Neck") and thought it might be interesting...I love it!

Thanks again, and kind regards,
Donna

'No Shadows standards' ? Are you having a larf or what, it's the Chet Atkins & Mark Knopfler album 'Neck & Neck' you are speaking of . . . . . streets ahead in playing skills of any Shadows tracks.

What a brilliant version and without 'that sound' too. I missed players like Chet and of course the amazing Les Paul in my early years.
Nice on Donna 8-)
