Thanx for the links, CM.....it's ok to be PAL but it should also be region free.
Pressing DVD for specific regions has to cost more than making it region free to start with.
There's no version for the USA.

Just a comment on the Region coding... a lot of people don't realise the DVD player in their computer is region free - for 5 plays. On the 5th play it defaults to the last region played. So if you live in North America and want to dedicate your laptop, for instance, to only play DVD's from the UK, it's simple. You only ever play Region 2 DVD's on it.

Much cheaper than buying a region-free DVD player. And if you don't mind watching your DVD's on your laptop - a free and easy solution to the dilemma...

(Mine's on its way from the UK)

Many DVD players can be made 'all regions' by a combination of button presses on the remote, or by pressing front panel buttons when the mains is applied. Try Googling your make/model with the words 'all regions'. For USA/Canada/Japan a greater problem is that the disk is PAL. Unlike UK/Europe (where PAL DVD players will almost always play NTSC disks), the reverse is not usually true for NTSC players.

So:
1. When you buy a DVD or a Blu-ray player, always get an all regions model

2. If in the USA/Canada, get a model that wil play PAL disks

3. If you have a High Definition TV with an HDMI socket, then when you buy a DVD player, always get one with upscaling and connect the player to the TV using an HDMI cable. You will find that even standard definition DVDs look crisper, more like high definition (though not as good as full high definition). If you buy a Blu-ray player (and they are now coming down to the magic £99 price point) then they will automatically upscale, although again, only with an HDMI cable connection.

I maybe wrong but I think it's five region changes rather than five plays; i.e. you can play a R1 disk then a R2, a R1, which (I think) in this particular case counts as two changes. Once you change regions for the fifth time your PC is permanently 'burnt' into the last one that you used - could even be a region other than 1 or 2.

It's rather a shame about the DVD only being available in region 2 as The Shadows' Final Tour DVD was available in both. A friend of mine in Canada bought the region 1 version in A & B Sounds in Vancouver after going out and buying a multi-region player on eBay, which he didn't need at the end of the day. That's another option of course: I lived in Canada for several years and acquired several region 1 disks so all my DVD players are all-region players. These days most DVD manufacturers tend to 'hide' the other region in the player and it's up to he owner to find a 'hack' on he net - there's plenty of DVD hack websites out there...

Hope this helps, Martin.

Whoops, I overzealously replied to Burnaby's message when Ray L in a later message (that I hadn't read at that point) had covered some of the points that I had alluded to.

I find it very strange that some music stores and webshops make this release available earlier than the official release date of Monday, November the 9th, 2009. Is it allowed to do that, or do they have a special agreement with the record company? May they be paying more money to the record company, so that they can make the DVD available earlier for purchase?
