I sure hope something will come up for you Brits.
Me on the other hand will definitely not make the trip (from The Netherlands) as for me the main reason of attending SHADOWMANIA was seeing Bruce Welch play.
We've had The International Cliff & Shadows Meeting in Holland for over 25 years which in the last 10 years became a 2 day event organized by Joop & Jolanda who both sadly passed away within the last 2 years.
If something in the UK would be organized without Bruce, I am afraid it has little more to add for me personally (but then again I am not a player, I simply love listening to the music).
I will miss seeing all the dear friends I've made over the years though, which was the other thing I loved SHADOWMANIA for... meeting up with old friends and making new. However, I am afraid it's not enough to make me want to pay an afwul lot of travelexpences for, when it's only a 40 min drive from my hometown to Tilburg.
I am not sure if The International Cliff & Shads Meeting in Holland will survive, only time will tell, I sure hope it does.
If not... thank goodness for the internet, so we can atleast keep in touch via Multimedia etc.

Regards
Angel(ique)

Hi Angel thanks for you reply here, this is the kind of feedback we need if anything is going to be arranged for next year, I'm sure others that are wanting / or would like to do some kind of event are studying the replys here also......Keep your views coming in, they are being read believe me .. :D

There must be heaps of venues in and around that would be suitable for some sort of gathering. It all depends on the scale.

A good rubbing down with vinegar should cure it Ecca.

Thanks Derek, just thought I'd share my opinion with you all, glad it's being appreciated even though I'm a 'non'player ;-) but a very regular Shadowmania visitor however.
It was great to meet last weekend!

Bob Potter told me that he makes more hiring the venue for Indian Weddings. .........

Dave

that I can well believe.

But I do think smaller events, around the country, at better venues with or without Bruce and the rest of the famous names could work, depends how much our bands would want for appearing.

I could make some enquires from Inn on the Lake, Gravesend, they have a resonable track record with cabaret nights and tribute bands.

Hi Everbody

If Shadowmania was to carry on i think Lakeside is the perfect venue, it has two hotels & plenty of parking space & Is close to the airports & motorways.
Plus Frimley village has all the amnenities you could want to make it a small holiday as well.

1. Lakeside has a lot going for it, but public transport isn't one of them... Somewhere like the Metropole would be a lot more convenient for the likes of me - I know from experience!.

2. Yes, you would need a committee to organise the event... but Bruce did it all on his own. Committees mean disagreement, votes, compromise.

3. I don't think you could call it ShadowMania.

4. But I think it would be a shame if the UK could not have *some* kind of national event to celebrate the music of the Shadows on a regular basis.

My 2, er, 4p.

I am reliably informed that the name 'Shadowmania' would not be approved for any such event by Bruce. :|
