Incidentally, that spring 1963 party was reported - in that same level of detail - in the New Musical Express at the time, so there must also have been an NME journalist in attendance.

From what I can remember, there was an extra NME snippet to the effect that Bruce briefly left the room and returned with "two rhythm guitars", one of which he handed to Hank. I recall that it continued along the lines that they then performed a version of Foot Tapper, using the two "rhythm" guitars, with Brian B and Brian L "vocally simulating" the drums and bass parts.

One day, I shall get along to the newspaper archive at Hendon and do some 1961-1964 research on NME and Melody Maker.

PS: I wonder which "rhythm guitars" Bruce had at the time? This was before the Gibson J-45s, though Bruce might still have had the Gibson J-30 he used in "The Young Ones". And there would have been the Vega archtop electric. It might even have included the Gretsch 6120 and/or the Vega.

Yes, Wonderful Land. It was in the BBC4 programme on Sunday: Love Me Do: the Beatles '62. They also played The Young Ones...

Bruce states in his autobiography that the forthcoming release, Atlantis, was the number performed in the kitchen to the assembled company.

Mention of one of the other party guests, Patsy Ann Noble, reminds me she subsequently turned to acting, moving to America, before returning to her native Australia in the early 1980s.

Yes it was the One Show that played Sleepwalk which was on BBC1. Did not realise there was another programme on about The Beatles.

Well if you're like me you can remember every word of a conversation you had in 1985, but can't remember what you had for tea on Monday!
