If these are available in Europe, I suggest you eval one of these:

Here's some U toob vids:

It could be the delay you've been looking for. 8-)

. . . . . or for those with the eTap2hw, maybe not. I haven't heard anything to beat it - at ANY price ! ;)

Perhaps I've just been looking in the wrong places, but I've yet to see any evidence that the Strymon can emulate a multi-tap tape delay.

These are brilliant echo units with loads of character, the cheaper El-Capistan d Tape Echo may be a closer choice for people interested in the Hank type echo, but it is still only going to be an approximation to those who who are seeking precise echo patterns, it doesn't have the number of simulated heads, nor between head timings.

I have had an El-Capistan for several months now, the character is such that I can't resist the urge to swop in and out with my MagicStomp, features like wow and flutter and tone are all there, it even has tape age, bias, crinkle, spring reverb and low end contour!

With the El-Capistn it is only possible to program one pre-set with an add on pedal, some will undoubtedly find this limiting, but for general studio/recording use it is a very good unit.

I agree with Dave, from the sound files that I have heard the the eTap2hw seems the way to go. I'm in the process of having a technically able friend build one of these built for me, but I will still keep the El-Capistan at present.

I think the Strymon units are probably some of the better ones out there and are DSP just like I believe ETap2HW and the upcoming Hall & Collins unit. It would be possible to use one of these Strymons with another cheaper unit to get the multitap delays approx as some use this method for live playing but will never be as good as the ETap2HW etc for this music . Still a very good echo unit though without a doubt. I hopefully will be getting an eTap2HW but would not mind a Strymon El Capistan too !

I would have liked to try out the two Strymon units but so far none have been available in any of the stores that I visit.
Now that the eTap2hw has arrived I think that one will struggle to find anything else to beat it for what is required for Shadows echoes in tone and character, as the patches are all in there as if it were a Meazzi, Vox Long Tom and Roland 301 all rolled into one, the search is over for me and the price for once makes it affordable. There isn't anything else out there that will give better results than what I have heard so for me the search is over. ;)

You should have got someone to build it for you if you're not au fait with it. I wouldn't have a clue, hence the help from Ecca.
I'm someone who isn't interested in how things are built, I just play them, but I know if they are any good - or not . . . . . . 8-)

Mick

Take your time with it and work closely to the build instructions. Make sure you fit the compnents in the correct holes (some of the holes don't have components in them, they just connect one side of the PCB to the other), electrolytic capacitors and the ICs and transistors the right way round and you'll get there.

If you're not sure, post someting on this board

Good luck

Ecca will build it for you at a very reasonable price providing everything , you just have to get a 12 v power supply and plug it in and play !!
