Web site closure

Postby Dave Dixon » 21 Oct 2012, 19:37

:( BT are ending their free web hosting at the end of the month so I've decided to close my web site http://www.btinternet.com/~shadows_archive/. As I haven't updated it since the 2009-10 reunion tour, it is probably time to call it a day anyway.

When I started it in 1996, I never imagined that it would still be going fifteen years later (indeed, at the time, there seemed little hope of ever seeing The Shadows together again and Shadowmania wasn't even on the horizon :D ).

I've reinstated some of the "archived" pages so if anyone wants to grab anything before it disappears into cyberspace, now's the time. Apologies if some of the links are broken but as it hasn't had any maintenance for two years

I would like to thank everyone who has helped with contributions of photos, articles etc. I could make a long list but would probably miss someone off so I'd better not start mentioning names. Thanks also to those of you who have sent in supporting emails; it was always good to know that someone was reading it (the hit counter disappeared after it had made it to 2 million!)

Thanks everyone

Dave

What a shame, Dave... You got me into all this!

Is it possible to make a working copy of your site on DVD? I would willingly pay to have such a resource at my fingertips and I suspect others would too...

Could be a nice little earner on EBay...

First of all, many thanks for all the work you put into 'Shadows Archive' over the years; it was truly a great site.

I first got connected to the Internet in the late 90's and at one point did a half-hearted search for "The Shadows" frankly not really expecting to find very much and suddenly up popped your site. Died and gone to heaven comes to mind as there was so much info posted there helping me to play catch up on all things Shadows...keeping in mind that being here in Canada they were basically an unknown - though that was soon to change.

I came across the link you had posted to David Martin's original msn community site, and through that site and with DM's help we first got Bruce to visit Canada and subsequently formed a very successful Toronto Shadows Club.

So it's all your fault... :D If it hadn't been for your site then the past decade or so, for me and quite a few others, would have been quite different I think.

So again, many thanks Dave.

BTW...I like David Martin's suggestion in his previous post, something well worth looking into methinks!

All the best

Martin

Dave Dixon's website was the very first Shadows website I ever discovered - way back in 1998!

Over the years it has given me a great deal of pleasure, not least of all due to Dave kindly using some of my articles. I shall be sad to see it go.

Yep that's the same for me. That plus the SCOFA website. Before the internet I thought I was the only person who still liked the Shadows! Thanks for all your great work, Dave.

I agree Dave. Without your site, I wouldn't be here.

I do wonder if there's a way of freezing it in aspic so that its contents are not lost.
